Eating a diet of high calcium food sources is important for health because there are so many benefits of calcium supplements and high calcium foods. It talks about the various forms of calcium supplements but warns those who have thyroid or kidney disease to check with their doctor before taking calcium supplements.

Foods to Avoid with Kidney Stones
This site lists calcium supplements as useful for the treatment of kidney stones. Because calcium oxalate causes most kidney stones, avoiding foods containing oxalate may be helpful - such as spinach, beet greens, nuts, chocolate, peanuts, bran, and strawberries. Eating calcium rich foods and taking calcium supplements, once thought to be harmful for stones, is now regarded as OK to take if you're prone to kidney stones.

Is it Possible to Take Too Much Calcium?
This page on the Harvard Health Services website answers basic questions about calcium, such as why do we need, how much do we need, is it possible to take too much, where do we get it, and other information. This site explains that there is no advantage to taking more than 2,000 to 2,500 mg per day. It provides a charge of how many milligrams of calcium should be taken by different age groups, by males and females, and during pregnancy. It also includes a list of calcium rich foods, such as milk, green leafy vegetables, sardines, broccoli, tofu, calcium-fortified orange juice and fortified cereals.

Preventing Kidney Stones: Are Calcium Rich Foods and Calcium Supplements OK?
To prevent kidney stones, this site recommends increasing fluids, restricting sodium and reducing protein intake. It doesn't say anything about limiting calcium food sources or not taking calcium supplements. In fact, it also cites that it is a well-known fact that eating foods high in calcium can actually protect against many cases of calcium oxalate stones. This is good news because so many foods contain calcium nutrition and these foods with calcium are also staples in many peoples' diets.
